The Story Behind Genius The Romans believed that every human was born with a genius, which determined your character, oversaw your work and accomplishments, and finally brought you to your death Most Genii (plural of Genius) were thought to be kind and protective, but on some occasions, a Genius could turn into an evil spirit that caused you to do bad But throughout the good and bad times in your life, your Genius stuck by you The Greeks had their own version of a Genius, called a Daemon, and it had the same function as a Genius did Later in history, the word Daemon became synonymous with an evil spirit, or a Demon

How is it Used Today The term Genius (noun), today, describes someone that has an extraordinary sense of creativity and/or superior intelligence. Example: Mira was hailed as a genius because she was able to do college level Calculus at the age of 5.

Daemons The Daemons are the bad Genii They are the equivalent of Demons They are the root of all chaos Daemons were banished from the Garden of Eden after refusing to serve Adam Made of pure magical energy Hard to defeat with physical weapons

Allusion in Popular Culture The good genius is telling Homer to do good, while the bad genius is telling him to do wrong.

Allusion in Popular Culture The song Bad Apple is the struggle of a girl within herself trying to make the right decision. However, she is still unsure of right and wrong and can’t find it in herself to make the right choice. This connects to the myth of genii because the genii are supposed to help people choose between right and wrong.
