3 MICE Oversight Committee o MICE Oversight Committee: −Review held 24 April 2014 −Goal of oversight committee: to review progress of MICE-UK project on behalf of STFC and to report to STFC −Created web page on MICE Wiki with documents and presentations: −Committee: Mark Thompson (Cambridge, chair), Ian Robson (STFC), Ray Veness (CERN), Nigel Watson (Birmingham), John Dowell (Birmingham), Derek Lowenstein (Brookhaven), plus STFC staff (Charlotte Jamieson, Dave Godfrey) −Precedes RLSR and MPB reviews by one week and needs similar (but different!) documentation −Presentations by PS, Roy Preece and Alan Grant, Ken Long in attendance MICE GL Meeting, 21 May 2014

4 MICE Oversight Committee o Feedback from MICE Oversight Committee: −Received 21 May 2014 (yesterday!) −Main points:  The OsC congratulated the collaboration on the recent progress (scientifically and project management)  Shorter report and more focused  Treatment of contingency (35%) and working margin  Concern about focus coils: detailed science plan at 160A  Report on progress of FC2  Step VI not recommended  Cost to completion of Step V under flat cash  How is £409k overspend in 2013/14 accounted?  Resolution of LiH shipping  Next OsC meeting: week of 13 October MICE GL Meeting, 21 May 2014

5 Accelerator Review o STFC Accelerator Review: −STFC is conducting a review to provide information on the breadth and scope of the STFC’s current UK accelerator science programme and to underpin the development of STFC’s accelerator strategy. −The review will report to Science Board for comment and development of a high-level accelerator strategy. −The Accelerator Strategy Board (ASB) will then establish a more detailed accelerator strategy and prioritised roadmap based on the findings in the review report and high-level strategic direction from Science Board. −In order to review the STFC-funded accelerator R&D programme, the review panel requests the completion of a proforma outlining the project: MICE has received one −Terms of reference: MICE GL Meeting, 21 May 2014
