Presentation transcript:

The most important factors to consider when purchasing a computer that will be used to create and edit graphics, animation and video are the size of the hard drive and the amount of memory. A large hard drive is essential to store the files that will be used in video and animation. The amount of memory or RAM directly impacts how fast your computer renders video and animation, allowing you to view the files smoothly and without hitches or freezes.

Computers store information in bits. A bit is the basic amount of information that can be stored by a device or other physical system that can normally exist in only two distinct states. Those states are On and Off. These are represented by O for Off and 1 for On. 0 1

A byte is a string of 8 bits

In order to free up additional space disk space on your computer you can: *Delete temporary internet files. *Empty the recycle bin.

What is the most likely reason an employer would refuse to allow an employee to connect his or her own computer to a company network? Company policy requires only specific hardware to be used on the company network

Increasing Random Access Memory will have the greatest impact on computer performance.

The type of device best suited for: Taking Digital Pictures Playing Computer Games Performing Mathematical Calculations

When trying to print a document, you receive the error message illustrated below. What should you do first? Check to make sure that your printer is on, online and has paper.

Of the following storage devices, which can be reused, allowing a user to record digital video or audio information multiple times? CD (Compact Disk) DVD (Digital Video Disk) CD-R (Compact Disk – Recordable) CD-RW (Compact Disk – ReWriteable)

The following maintenance steps can safely be performed when the keys on a computer’s keyboard are sticking: Vacuum with dusting attachment or turn upside down and gently tap Do not rinse with water, place in the dishwasher or spray with ammonia!

The type of computer that describes the activity most suited to that type of computer An employee writing a letter would use a Microcomputer.

A scientific laboratory simulating nuclear explosions would use a Supercomputer.

A national phone service provider connecting callers to circuits would use a mainframe computer.

A driver is a type of software that is installed when one adds new hardware to a computer in order to allow the computer to communicate to the new device

A Stylus is a device used to enter information into a personal digital assistant (PDA) by writing directly on the PDA’s display.

The computer component that contains the CPU, the RAM and the Bus is called the Motherboard.

Information is temporarily stored in Random Access Memory (RAM) while it is in use. Instructions are stored in Read-only Memory (ROM) which specify what happens when a computer is first turned on. Information is saved for long term storage on a Hard Drive.

During an electrical storm, what precaution will best prevent damage to computer equipment in the event of a lightning strike on your location? Unplugging all equipment
