Welcome Parents! Agenda Title I Program Overview Read to Achieve Updates Our Title I Plan for Our Intervention Staff Parental Involvement Parental Involvement Policy and Rights Student/Teacher/Parent Compact District Parental Involvement Advisory Council (DPAC) Parent Resource Center Important Dates and Further Information

Title I is a federally funded program under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of Title I Program Overview It provides funding for high poverty schools to help students who are behind academically or at risk of falling behind to meet our state's academic content and performance standards. It is the largest federal education funding program for schools. Schools qualify for Title I funds based on economic need. Based on the school’s percentage of free/reduced price lunch.

North Carolina Read to Achieve The Goals “The goal of the State is to ensure that every student read at or above grade level by the end of third grade and continue to progress in reading proficiency so that he or she can read, comprehend, integrate, and apply complex text when needed for secondary education and career success.”

NC Read to Achieve Program Major Components Comprehensive Literacy Plan K-3 Diagnostic Reading Assessment Third graders not performing on grade level Retention, Summer Reading Camp, Fourth Grade Transitional Classes

★ All teachers will implement the K-3 reading assessments ★ Parents, staff, and students will be informed about the NC Read to Achieve through throughout the school year ★ Information may be found on the Davidson County Elementary website ★ On the main page click Departments – Curriculum and Instruction – Elementary Education – NC Read to Achieve Program Read to Achieve

★ A needs assessment of the school is conducted and the data analyzed ★ The needs assessment guides the development of a School Improvement Plan in collaboration with administrators, faculty, parents, students, and community ★ Students in need of specialized assistance and support receive differentiated instruction by highly qualified specialists in addition to classroom instruction ★ Collaboration about curriculum strategies occurs between the specialists and classroom teachers. Data driven dialogue supports and monitors student progress Schoolwide Process

Our Title I School Wide Plan Our Title I Program for consists of the following: ★ 10 more iPads to add to our total of 89 iPads already in use ★ Employed Title I Lead teacher, 3 Reading Specialists, and 1 Math Specialist to support all students at Hasty. ★ 5 Parent nights this school year ★ Online materials and subscriptions for students and teachers to accelerate academic success ★ Student materials for classroom use

Rights of Parents in Title I Schools ★ Be a part of developing a written parent involvement policy ★ Be involved in the planning and implementation of the parent involvement program ★ Receive materials and training to foster greater parent involvement
