Type of Fescue  1. Tall Fescue

Tall Fescue  Tall Fescue is one of the most popular grasses in the mountain and upper Piedmont areas of Georgia, an area that extends as far south as Atlanta. Its popularity relates to its ease of establishment through seeding and its green color during spring and fall, when warm – season turf grasses are dormant and brown. Tall fescue is a perennial bunch – type grass that grows rapidly during spring and fall.

Soil Conditions  Tall fescue is adapted to a wide range of soil conditions but grows best in fertile, well – drained soils with a soil pH of 5.5 to 6.5. It often needs irrigation to remain attractive during the summer.

Grass Use  Fescue grass can used in many different ways.  It can be used for home lawns, athletic fields, parks, sod production, golf course roughs, industrial turf, and for the use of hay to feed to livestock in the winter.

Color  Fescue has a bright, dark green color that lasts through the spring and the summer. During the fall, the grass starts to turn into a light to dark brown color.

Texture  Most fescue grasses have a fine texture, with broad shaped leaves that have serrated edges. At the top of the stem, there is a pod of seeds that will eventually be germinated.

Prices of Fescue Grass  The price of fescue ranges. 5lb. bag - $ lb. bag - $ lb. bag - $ lb. bag - $69.95

Survival  Fescue has an extremely long root system and is the secret to its drought tolerance. The roots can reach down as far as six feet just to get water. The grass can also survive the cold temperatures as well. It will also withstand soils that have a heavy clay content or are compacted. Tall fescue can also withstand saturated soils longer than other species.

Review What are some of the prices on fescue grass?

Where can fescue grow in Georgia and what are the conditions that it likes to grow in.?

What pH level does fescue prefer to grow in?
