IVOA urgent challenge What do we have for data-center manager? “How can my data become part of VO?” “Where can I read about VO?” “What software can help me to be VO-compliant?” “How do I expose my images, catalogs and spectra?” “How many people do I need to be VO-compliant?” “Is everything going to change again next year?” New Interest Group “Implementations” ? Each project reports back on “their” data centers and VO-compliance

Essential VO in 2006 Standard services: –catalog: Skynode –image: SIAP 1.0 –spectrum: SSAP Discovery –data & services: Registry –literature: ADS, astro.ph Let’s get these to REC this summer!

1. Skynode and ADQL exposes a relational database Function –What are the tables –What are the attributes of a table –Please run this query How can we simplify ADQL? –select a,b,c from table Work on scaling &db implement not complexity of ADQL

2. Image Access SIAP 1.0, simple model, let’s keep it! multiple 2D images Standardize time? The “new SIAP” needs a new name Datacube, On-demand, time-series, single dataset, etc etc t

3. Spectral Access SSAP *must* be ready this summer –2 years late –no more time for subtleties –complexity in the data product, NOT in the XML

4. Registry User experience Search forms more important than SOAP Publisher’s account and login Publishing/updating many records Librarians and validators Schema must be “explainable” Schema change is a HUGE disruption Must be a VERY good reason

How you can help Robust Implementations Need list of relevant software for each protocol SIAP, SSAP, Skynode, STC For the Data Center Which registry for them (Registry of Registries?) Report back to Implementation IG Logging of VO services If you run a registry Alert your curation team when new record arrives Run auto-verifier regularly
