Genre Realistic Fiction -Made-up story that could have happened in real life.

Strategy Evaluate -Evaluating a realistic story involves thinking critically about the ways in which the characters and events are portrayed.

Skill Summarize -To summarize a story you should identify the most important ideas or events and retell these in their own words.

Selecting Definition: choosing Sentence: Opal moved through the store, carefully selecting the items she wanted to buy.

Positive Definition: certain or sure Sentence: Winn-Dixie influenced Opal’s life in a positive way; he made her want to be a be a better person.

Snuffled Definition: sniffed, usually loudly. Sentence: Sometimes, Winn- Dixie snuffled along the floor, looking for food.

Consisted Definition: made up of Sentence: Her entire order consisted of macaroni and cheese, tomatoes, and rice.

Peculiar Definition: not usual, strange Sentence: his coat had no peculiar, or unpleasant, odor.

Advanced Definition: beyond the beginning level Sentence: Winn-Dixie was smart, more advanced than the average dog.

Story Words Memorial- Something that is put up, kept, or done to remember a person. Palmetto- a palm tree with leaves shaped like fans.
