Owning a pet is a big responsibility and sometimes unexpected loss of appetite in your dog can create a disturbing situation for you and your pup. Nuvet Labs is describing here six reasons of lost appetite in dogs. Lets discuss the causes and help your dog to regain its appetite.

Dogs also feel stress like humans and become depressed. They do not eat properly during the depression. Reasons can be different, but it is essential to know the reason of stress in your dog. For example, environment change when shifting your house, boarding your dog in a kennel or addition of new member in the house, etc. You can help him to improve his poor appetite by giving extra care and healthy food. Keep your pup happy and spend a lot of time to reduce depression.

There are many types of human foods which are harmful for dogs. Dogs usually attracted to the food they see us eating. It is not possible for any pet parent to watch every moment of your pet and sometimes your dog eat toxic food in your absence. Specially chocolate and grapes are very dangerous for dogs. These toxic foods affect your dog’s heath and cause appetite loss in them.

Different dogs may have different eating habits. They can have different choices for food they like to eat. If you try to switch your dog’ diet from a particular diet to a new diet like canned food to dry dog food, it can also affect your dog’s appetite. So first try to change his diet gradually by mixing a less quantity of dry dog food to canned food.

Sometimes your happy and energetic pup becomes lazy and weak due to sickness. Sickness results appetite loss in dogs. Your pet can be caught by infection diseases like flu, fever or cold. So it is important to give him a proper medicine and healthy diet to prevent him from appetite loss.

Another common reason of appetite loss in dogs is tooth and mouth pain. Your furry friend stop eating his favourite food when he experience mouth pain due to mouth sore, tooth damage or periodontal disease. If you notice this problem try to resolve it with the help of doctor.

Digestive problems stop your dog from eating. There are various kinds of digestive problems like vomiting, constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, diarrhea, etc. If your dog has digestive problems, take him to the vet and specially take care of his diet.
