Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute Serving Caldwell and Watauga Counties NCWorks Career Pathway Program Evaluation June 2 nd -3 rd, 2016

Economic and Workforce Need-Health Care Currently, Caldwell County has a significant shortage of healthcare workers particularly nurses, nurse aides, and physical therapists. According to the Western Piedmont Workforce Development Board Occupational Projections, the Western Piedmont region will see a 22% increase in the number of Nursing, Psychiatric, and Home Health Aide openings between 2010 and 2020 with 150 openings annually. The data also indicates that the region will experience a net change in 400 openings or 11.2% for registered nurses with 110 openings annually. By developing coursework through Career and College Promise, CCCTI will be able to provide college courses to high school students that will prepare them for entry into associate degree programs in the health sciences, thus addressing this well-documented employment need in the region.
