THE ELEVATOR SPEECH In this presentation you will learn all about the Elevator Speech and how to create your own. At the end of the presentation you will be ready to write your own speech. You will also learn how to present your speech to an audience. At the end of each unit of study, you make a product that shows what you learned. The product for Unit One is called an Elevator speech.

Imagine this… What would you say if you find yourself in an elevator with somebody that you admire. You can’t believe your luck!! You have 30 seconds to have a conversation with that person and make an impression…. Take 5 minutes to brainstorm and think about what you would like that person to know.

WHAT ADVICE ARE YOU GIVEN IN THE VID EO  Use honest statements about yourself.  Try to sound natural. This makes the speech easier to deliver.  Write down the qualifications that are relevant to the position/role.  Describe your value to your audience. What can you offer them?  Create a dialogue. Try to invite interest.  Ask for permission to send your resume, or phone them.  Ask for a business card.

Organization Make sure your speech is clear, concise and well organized. You can use the following words to help you: FOR EXAMPLE: While working at a homework center in the afternoons, I learned a lot about young children. Closing / Invitation Ask permission to speak to the person at a later time. You may want to appeal to his or her emotions, or address them personally.
