Girl1: Where are you going, Larry? Boy1: To Tom’s party. Girl1: Lucky you! I’d love to go to that party! Boy1: Yeah, well, I’m a little nervous. I don’t know what to wear.

Girl1: If I were you, I’d wear a shirt and tie. Boy1: What if everybody else is wearing jeans and T-shirts? Girl1: Oh, you shouldn’t worry about what other people are wearing. Boy1: And I don’t have a present. What if everyone brings a present? Girl1: If I were you, I’d wear a shirt and tie. Boy1: What if everybody else is wearing jeans and T-shirts? Girl1: If you don’t know anyone, you can talk to Tom. He’ll introduce you to people. Boy1: I guess I can do that. Girl1: Look! You’re sure to have fun. But if you’re still nervous, you can leave.

e.g. Next time you come, bring me that book, please.

e.g. Who has taken away today’s newspaper? e.g.

Go and get some water. Can you fetch me some paper ? 2. He might not know anyone at the party.

e.g. He said that I might borrow his bike.

e.g. a. Might I borrow your bike ? He might come today.

Grammar focus 1.

(1). If it is sunny tomorrow, we’ll go to the zoo.

(2). If I were you, I would go at once.

If I had time, I would go for a walk. If I were invited, I would go to the dinner party. If I won a million dollars in the lottery, I would put it in the bank.

2. He doesn’t know if he should bring a present. e. g. ①. I don’t know if I should go to the party.

②. If I have enough money, I will go to Hainan. 3. If I were you, I’d wear a shirt and tie. if 引导的条件状语从句表示与现在事 实相反的虚拟语气时, be 动词只能用 were, 而不能用 was 。

e. g. If he were here, he would not agree with you. 4. I don’t have a present. What if everyone else brings a present? What if… ” 相 当于 what would happen if… e. g. What shall I do if it snows?

Reading (3a: P28) I get nervous before big parties.
