CHALLENGE 1  Create a whole new world, add a character.  Make your character move when you press the arrow keys.  When your character bumps into certain objects, it needs to collect the object and score points. NEXT CHALLENGE:  Instead of collecting the object and scoring a point, make your character say something!

POSSIBLE LEARNING CONTEXTS FOR THE CHALLENGE  Maths – addition and multiplication  English - setting descriptions  Science – collect all the non-living objects in the world to score points  Geography – draw a map of the world you have created  History – invasions and settlements  MFL – instead of scoring points, make the character “say” what colour the object is

TYPES OF GAME USING SKILLS SO FAR  Maze  Quest … AND NEXT  Overcoming dangerous obstacles

CHALLENGE 2 Create a frogger-style game where your character has to get from one place to another without hitting a series of moving obstacles. If your character hits one of the moving objects, something must happen to end the game.

POSSIBLE LEARNING CONTEXTS  Maths - talk about shapes of paths/angles of turns for the moving characters  English – write news reports about the character’s journey  Science – Create a game to show what you know about food chains  Geography – draw maps to show the journey of the character  History - Recreate the moon landings  MFL – Give instructions in a different language

CHALLENGE 3  Can you make one of your games into a 2 player game?

CHALLENGE 4 – ADDING POWER UPS Can you add a power up to your game? When a specified score has been reached, increase the speed of your character and increase the score achieved for every new item collected.

SOME MORE TECHNIQUES Using multiple pages for Koding Jumping from one “world” to another – PORTALS/LEVELS

CHALLENGE 5 – LOSING AND GAINING HEALTH In your game, can you make your character lose points every time they have a collision with certain objects? Can you make it so they can “heal” and earn some points back when they collide with another object instead? Tip 1: you will need more than one page. Use what you know about powerups. Tip 2: try using the “once” option when points are added back on so points are only added once per bump

CHALLENGE 6 – ADDING STORY TELLING TO THE REPERTOIRE Can you add a cut-scene to your game, where you cut away to a view of a character (or pair of characters) using speech bubbles to give instructions or information? Tips:  Use the timer to score 1 point every second (In a scorecard that will be hidden later), then use the score to time when each speech bubble is seen.  Add another character and programme so we always see the speech bubbles from their from their first-person viewpoint (they can be made to vanish when we are finished, then make them invisible)
