Compound words are two smaller words that are joined together to make a new word. Both words in the compound word have meaning on their own. For example: doghouse - butterfly -

birthday The girls were at a birthday party.

anyone The kids checked to see if anyone was coming before they snuck out to get some cookies from the kitchen.

someone The kitten was waiting for someone to come home and play with her.

everything My mom said I had to pick two pieces of candy to eat, but I wanted to eat everything!
