Punnett Squares and Heredity Quiz Trivia!

Rules  Each topic has 5 questions. You will have 2 minutes to answer each question with your group, assign a point value for the question, and turn in your answer to me.  If you do not turn in your answer by the end of the song to me, your answer will not count.  You can only use each point value once (1,3,5,7,9)  There will be a final question worth up to 20 points

Round 1

Round 1 Question 1 Vocabulary  What word describes an organism’s physical appearance?

Round 1 Question 2 Vocabulary  What word describes an organism that has two different alleles expressed?

Round 1 Question 3 Vocabulary  What word describes an organism’s genetic makeup or allele combination?

Round 1 Question 4 Vocabulary  What word describes the likelihood that a particular event will occur?

Round 1 Question 5 Vocabulary  What type of reproduction is where genetic material from the mother and the father combine to create a new offspring?

Round 1 Answers  1. Phenotype  2. Heterozygous  3. Genotype  4. Probability  5. Sexual

Round 2

Round 2 Question 1 Punnett Squares  If a homozygous dominant female is crossed with a heterozygous male, where B= black and b= white, what is the phenotype of the female parent?

Round 2 Question 2 Punnett Squares  If a homozygous dominant female is crossed with a heterozygous male, where B= black and b= white, what is the genotype of the male parent?

Round 2 Question 3 Punnett Squares  If a homozygous dominant female is crossed with a heterozygous male, where B= black and b= white, what are the phenotypes of the offspring?

Round 2 Question 4 Punnett Squares  If a homozygous dominant female is crossed with a heterozygous male, where B= black and b= white, what percentage of the offspring are heterozygous?

Round 2 Question 5  If a homozygous dominant female is crossed with a heterozygous male, where B= black and b= white, what are the genotypes of the offspring?

Round 2 Answers  1. Black  2. Bb  3. Black  4. 50%  5. BB, Bb

Round 3

Round 3 Question 1 Misc.  What is the genotype for a male?

Round 3 Question 2 Misc.  What is the genotype of a female?

Round 3 Question 3 Misc.  What word describes different forms of the same genes?

Round 3 Question 4 Misc.  What word describes something that occupies a specific location on both chromosomes in a pair?

Round 3 Question 5 Misc.  Identify each example in order as either homozygous dominant, homozygous recessive or heterozygous  A. Gg  B. TT  C. rr  D. Aa

Round 3 Answers  1. XY  2. XX  3. Allele  4. Gene  5. Heterozygous, homozygous dominant, homozygous recessive, heterozygous

Final Question

Final Question (worth up to 20 points)  When crossing two heterozygous parents, blue eyes is recessive and brown eyes are dominant to what percentage of the offspring will have brown eyes? What percentage will have blue eyes? (you need to specify on your answer sheet)

Final Question Answer  75% will be brown and 25% will be blue
