Islam

Islam - Monotheistic religion based on the teachings of Muhammad.

People who believe in the Islam religion are called Muslims.

Muhammad Received messages from the angel Gabriel in 593 A.D. He is known as the last and most important prophet (messenger of God.)

Muslims have 5 basic duties, called the 5 Pillars of Islam. There is no god but God (Muslim’s call him Allah.) Must pray five times a day. Must give charity to the poor. Must fast during Ramadan. Must make a pilgrimage to Mecca.

A Muslim church is called a mosque.

Muslims meet at the mosque to pray Muslims meet at the mosque to pray. While praying, they always face Mecca.

Just like Christians, Muslims are split into many groups, or sects.

The Holy Book of Islam is called the Qu’ran

And just like Christianity, Islam has spread all over the world.
