Kidney Structure & Function
Mammalian Excretory System
I. Urinary System A.Humans excrete nitrogenous waste (from amino acids) as urea and uric acid. B.Kidneys remove waste and water from blood.
The nephron and kidney function
3 functions of the urinary system Excrete nitrogenous wastes – Urea produced from the metabolism of proteins and nucleic acids Other animals produce ammonia.
Have you ever wondered why your body has to urinate? Where does that fluid come from? Why is it yellow? You'll learn the answers to these and more questions.

KIDNEY RLO 1 – anatomy Page 1 In the body, two kidneys, two ureters and the bladder form the urinary system. The kidneys are located at waste level in.

Urinary System. Urinary System Function The function of the urinary system is to help maintain the appropriate balance of water and solutes in the bodies.
Maintaining Water Balance The Kidneys. Homeostasis Regulation of a stable internal environment no matter where we are or what we do… We put our bodies.
Excretion Purpose: - Maintain Homeostasis –Keeping the “status quo” externally and internally Function: Rids body of metabolic wastes –Salts, Carbon Dioxide,

The Nephron G. Renal Artery F.Glomerulus E.Bowman’s capsule H.Proximal convoluted tubule B.Loop of Henle (descending) C.Loop of Henle (ascending) J.Vasa Recta D.Renal Vein I.Distal convoluted tubule A.Collecting Tube (duct) Connects to Ureter Renal Corpuscle: F. and E. The Glomerulus and the Bowman’s Capsule together.

The Loop of Henle Function:  Re-absorb into body Water and Na+ from the fluid being filtered (becomes urine)  This affects urine concentration.

De Descending Loop Permeable to Water Not permeable to Na+ Concentration of liquid Increases as Water exits Ascending Loop Permeable to Na+ Not permeable to Water Concentration of liquid Decreases as Na+ exits Water Na+ Loop of Henle
