After the FAFSA WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

After the FAFSA… What Happens Next? Video Length 3:01

I still haven’t submitted my FAFSA, is it to late? No, however money is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis and you must file before the financial aid deadline of the school you want to attend. Here are financial aid deadlines for a few of the colleges LC seniors usually attend: ◦University of Washington: Feb. 28 ◦Eastern Washington University: Feb. 15 ◦Western Washington University: Feb. 15 ◦Washington State University: Feb. 15 ◦Community Colleges of Spokane (SCC & SFCC): April 17

Things to do: Make corrections to your FAFSA. ◦You will need to log back in to your FAFSA application and update the tax information if you originally submitted it with estimated amounts. ◦Choose the IRS link to have the correct information come directly from the IRS tax form you filed. ◦Be sure to resubmit the form using your FSA ID username and password. If you don’t do this, the updated information will not be saved. (You can submit your application as many times as you need.)

Things to do: Complete verification forms in a timely manner. ◦If you are one of the 30% of people who are selection to provide additional verification of income, you need to submit the required documents by the deadline they indicate or your application for aid will be denied. ◦You will receive an or letter requesting this information. Check to see if your college requires additional financial aid forms. ◦If you plan to attend one of the Community Colleges of Spokane, you will also need to submit their financial aid form by their April 17 deadline or you will not receive your student aid money.

True or False? I’m enlisting in the military, taking a year off, or going directly into the workforce so I don’t have to file the FAFSA.

Well, let’s talk about this… If you don’t file the FAFSA, you won’t be offered any money. So, what if your plans change or something happens in your life which prevents you from following through with your plan? ◦The FAFSA application is good for one year and you are not required to take out any loans or do anything with your FAFSA if you choose another path. Think of it this way: if your plan changes or your job requires you to take a course or two next winter or spring, how will you pay for it?
