Introduction about Vacuum Pump Vacuum pump is used to pull air or gases from a confined or sealed space. The air or gas is sucked out leaving the space void of any or most of the air or gas molecules.

Introduction about Vacuum Pump Different forms of vacuum pumps are used in household and commercial vacuum applications like vacuum cleaning, vacuum sealing of food or other objects which are damaged due to the harmful elements present in the nature and much more.

Introduction about Vacuum Pump Otto von Guericke was the one who for the first time introduced to the world the ever first vacuum pump in Pumping speed is the most important factor on the basis of which vacuum pumps are usually compared or measured.

Basic Operation of a Vacuum Pump The basic principle behind working of vacuum pumps is removal of air from the enclosed system by suction to progressively decrease air density within the confined space so that the absolute pressure of the remaining gas drops and vacuum is created.

Basic Operation of a Vacuum Pump A vacuum pump converts the mechanical input energy of a rotating shaft into pneumatic energy by evacuating the air contained within a system. The internal pressure level thus becomes lower than that of the outside atmosphere. The amount of energy produced depends on the volume evacuated and the pressure difference produced.

Types of Vacuum Pumps  There are basically three types of vacuum pumps.  Positive Displacement Vacuum Pumps  Momentum Transfer Vacuum Pumps  Entrapment Pumps

Positive Displacement Vacuum Pumps In positive displacement pumps continuous mechanism is employed for expanding a cavity. Here the gases are allowed to flow in from the chamber and exhausted to the atmosphere after sealing of the cavity.

Transfer Type Vacuum Pumps  In transfer vacuum pumps momentum is created with a piston or propeller kind of device in the pumps which pushes the gas around the inner parts of the pump. The piston in the pump accelerates the gas and air molecules, creating an area of low pressure.  The gas and air molecules begin moving away from the low pressure region and escape through the outlet valve of the pump. When the desired amount has been removed from the chamber, a closure valve is put into place to prevent the molecules from being pulled back into the container from the pump.

Entrapment Pumps To perform more effectively, trapping pumps or entrapment pumps are usually placed inside the space or container to be vacuumed. These types of pumps work using chemical reactions. Some entrapment pumps operate by removing the condensation or thin film created by the molecules in the air when they chemically react to the internal surfaces of the pump.
