Map Title Tells the subject of the map – Tells what the map is about.

Map Key or Legend Explains what the symbols on the map stand for.

Compass Rose Direction marker – shows the Cardinal Directions.

Cardinal Directions North, South, East, West

Intermediate Directions Directions between the Cardinal Directions - Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest.

Intermediate Directions Intermediate Directions are written…. NE NW SE SW

Locator Small map or picture of a globe – shows where the area shown on the main map is located.

Map Scale Compares a distance on a map to a distance in the real world.
