WATER SECTOR ROAD MAP OF THE EU PRESIDENCIES OF POLAND-DENMARK-CYPRUS Informal Meeting of the EU Water and Marine D irectors BUDAPEST, 26 – 27 MAY

The main priorities on the agenda of the trio presidency PL-DK-CY  Following-up of implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD, 2000/60/EC);  Advancing the implementation of the Floods Directive (2007/60/EC);  Supporting the implementation of the Environmental Quality Standards Directive (EQS, 2008/105/EC) and the chemical pollution aspects of the WFD;  Supporting the implementation of Directive on technical specification for chemical analysis and monitoring of water status (QA/QC Directive, 2009/90/EC);  Making progress on the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD);  Following the work on the preparation for the 2012 reporting programmes of measures;  Making progress under issues related to WFD and agriculture;  Supporting streamlining of monitoring and reporting under WFD, the Nitrites Directive and EEA’s State of the Environment;  Promoting the progress of the WFD CIS and MSFD CIS;  Closely monitoring the implementation of the work programme for the preparation of the „Blueprint to Safeguard Europe’s Water Resources”. 2

Key steps under Polish EU presidency 1.Implementation of the first series of River Basin Management Plans; preparation of the tools for the 2012 reporting on the implementation of programmes of measures - development of reporting schemas and tools (including testing) during the second half of 2011, finalisation end According to roadmap on Fitness Check in the period of July – December 2011, a in-depth assessments of issues identified during evaluation phase and public consultation will take place. By the end of 2011 there should be established a final report with findings of the evaluation, in-depth assessments and public consultation. 3.As activity on water and agriculture, two studies on water & agriculture - one on water pricing, one on water saving - have been on the agenda. An important milestone of the water pricing study will be the CIS Conference on water pricing in agriculture in Warsaw, on 15 September. 4.In the scope of Floods Directive, deadline to carry out the Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment under reporting tools ( ); finalisation of reporting sheets for „Flood Risk Management Plans” for approval by Water Director, end

Key steps under Polish EU presidency 5.Finalisation of the intercalibration exercises with Phase 2 and/or substantially improve their results by the end of With regard to groundwater, make some progress to prepare a proposal for amendment of the Annexes I and II of the Groundwater Directive. 7.Follow-up of the expert network activity with the aim to get a common understanding between water, marine and nature protection sectors on the achievement of water related objectives under the WFD, the MSFD, the Birds and the Habitats Directive. 9.Make progress on work within the working groups under the Common Implementation Strategy. 4

Water and Marine Directors’ Meeting Warsaw, 7 December 2011 Wednesday, 7 December Excursion to the 19th Warsaw Filters - a unique example of industrial heritage in continuous operation for 120 years. 7

The Filters started to provide water to Warsaw residents July 3, 1886, and have operated continuously since then. Part of the Warsaw water system designed and built in by British engineer William Lindley. The Filters are Warsaw's oldest water supply station. Water and Marine Directors’ Meeting Warsaw, - 8 December 2011 Official dinner at the Palace on the Island A pearl of Polish architecture and one of the symbols of Warsaw. It is located in the Łazienki Królewski Palace /Park Complex, that is one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe, founded in the 17th. Its history is closely connected with the reign of Stanisław August Poniatowski, the last Polish king. 9
