My theory of change: I believe science centres can influence confidence around science and sense of scientific identity They do this through creating a social space where science is valued and enjoyed by you and your peers, your family and significant adults Scientific identity is the key factor

What evidence do I need? Can I measure “sense of scientific identity”? Can I measure how this changes? Can I measure similar changes in self- confidence? Will this data, combined with prior research on influences, be sufficient to show science centre influence?

Conclusion Can Science Centres Awaken Scientific Vocations? Yes, if: – Other influences are also present – The intermediate steps happen – The intermediate steps link up and reinforce each other – Competing influences don’t drown us out

Final thought! Science centres build personal confidence and a sense of identity Surely this is a good thing for the individual and society, whatever career they choose?
