Word & Windows Terminology Review

1. Provides one-click access to common commands you use frequently. In the Business Lab some of the commands you will find on this bar are “New”, “Open”, “Save”, & “Quick Print”.

2. This is used to SUPER shrink the active window down to the taskbar. The window is represented only by a title bar on the taskbar. It is OPEN but not active.

3. One of the top bars in Microsoft Word. It identifies the name of the program (Microsoft Word) and the document (filename).

4. This will allow the user to change the size of the view on the monitor (this does not change the size of the print that will show up on the final copy from the printer). When working in Microsoft Word, users should set this at PAGE WIDTH to view the document in the document window.

5. One-click used to close the active window which includes the program and the document.

6. Used to bring the active window to its maximum (or largest) size to fill the monitor or screen.

7. This term identifies the pointer on the mouse when it is moving around within the document window. It tells the user “You can type here.”

8. This is used to reduce the size of the active window so that you may view multiple windows. The window is Open AND Active.

9. Each of these provides one-click access to the groups of commands on the ribbons. Sometimes new ones are added depending on the what you are doing.

10. What do we call the horizontal line under the last line of a document in draft view only.

11. When formatting a document in Microsoft Word the user would have this button turned on so that the user can view all spaces, tabs and hard enters. It is located in the “Paragraph” group on the “Home” ribbon.

12. The area where commands are grouped according to the tasks you perform in Microsoft Word.

13. This view allows the user to view only the area within all the margin sets.

14. This appears below the ribbon and shows the left and right margin sets. It also shows that you have 6½” from left to right.

15. This is located at the bottom of the screen in Microsoft Word. This area gives the user information about the location of the insertion point. The user will look here when the user wants to know how far down (vertically) the insertion point is on a page of a document and how many pages there are to the document. When starting a document in the Business Lab the user is automatically at 1.0” vertically.

16. This is the vertical blinking line in the document window that identifies the point at which you are going to type. Indicates where you are located in a document.

17. What is the bar at the bottom of the screen in all Windows applications. It shows the Start button and any open applications.

18. This appears to the left of the document window. It shows the top and bottom margins and the 9” of vertical typing area (only in Print Layout View).
