Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-II INFSO-RI Gabriel Zaquine - EGEE/ Industry - EchoGRID, Beijing, October Going Forward The EGEE infrastructure as a whole cannot become a pay-for-usage service due to funding of the resources and restrictions on commercial use of the GEANT network –EGEE-II experience shows potential for regional pay-for-usage services for SMEs EGEE will continue to provide open source middleware components and facilitate access to commercial alternatives –EGEE-II surveys (Qi3, UK) show there is a market for standards-compliant, open source middleware with commercial support and training backed-up by a large community of developers and users EGEE intends to confirm and implement this strategy in the context of the European 7 th Framework: Technology Transfer and potential commercial exploitation –Survey and assess the market of middleware sold/used in business contexts to position EGEE technology (not only gLite) on the market –Develop a network of companies to prepare the future commercial exploitation of EGEE technology  EGEE Business Associates; ISVs; Software integrators and IT Services providers Further developing EGEE business outreach best practices –Based on a targeted approach defined above Provide solutions to challenges for Business adoption –Analyse the business requirements gathered and identify higher-level services to be prototyped (e.g. SLA; billing/accounting,...)
