USA China Austria Zero waste in the Automotive sector? 6th July, UK Piers Grumett Managing Director MBA Polymers UK Ltd

2 ”Plastics” THAT ONE WORD OF ADVICE ….

Closing the loop for more materials 3

The current recycling supply chain 4 20% Landfill 100% Input End of Life Consumables Shredding is the industry standard and “best available” technology for recycling mixed metal rich waste streams including end of life vehicles Shredding Operations 70% Recycled Steel 5% Other Recovery/Recycling 5% Recycled Non-ferrous Metals ASR Note: Percentages are after removal of tyres and fluids

ASR CONFIDENTIAL5 ASR (Automotive Shredder Residue) is the non-metallic element of the feed material removed by the shredding process. It is referred to as “Automotive” as end of life vehicles make up the vast majority of the available feed and they contribute the bulk of the non-metallics; vehicle interiors, glass, plastic / rubber drive-train components

ASR Future Projections 6 Year of production Weight (kg) FE Metal (%) N/F Metal (%) Plastic (%)56810 Other (%) Note: Expected to become ELV 12/13 years after production

Post consumer plastics are mostly discarded 7 Metals in durable goods recycled at 90+% rates

Why aren’t more plastics recycled? 8 1. Plastics from durables just started coming back in large volumes 2. It’s not Easy

Towards zero waste... 9 Advanced Gasification Power Plants 15% Landfill 1% End of Life Consumables 100% Shredding Operations Recycled Steel 70% Recycled Non-ferrous Metal 4% In-line ASR & Non-Ferrous Processing EMR/MBA Plastic Recycling 5% Recycled Steel Recycled Non-ferrous Metal Recycled Aggregates 5% Electricity

Supply chain transformation Recycling rates increased from 85% to 99% A reduction of 500,000 tonnes sent to landfill 25,000 tonnes of previously un-recoverable metal recycled 60,000 tonnes of plastic recycled for “primary” re-use End to End Process is generating more energy than it consumes 10

MBA Polymers UK Ltd 11 Overview Joint venture between MBA and EMR, one of the world’s largest metal recyclers JV agreement signed in Dec07; plant operational in mid 2010 Initial plant processing capacity of 60,000 MT per year, expandable to 80,000 MT Plant will process primarily Automotive Shredder Residue (ASR), a raw material that is both more complicated and more abundant than ESR (3-5x) Facility will be sourced exclusively from EMR’s existing metal recycling facilities throughout UK –EMR currently installing extra processing equipment at feeder sites to upgrade ASR before shipping it to the new facility MBAUK site EMR feeder sites

MBA’s Sustainable Business Model 12 ProcurementProcessingSelling Low costs Self-replenishing sustainable supply Growing supply Land-filled/Incinerated Lower capital costs < 10% of energy Save 1-3 tons CO2/ton MBA recruited worldwide Mechanical ‘mining’ process Unique products Sell on attributes vs price Customers seek out MBA Higher margins Post-consumer content rules Green marketing

MBA provides a Unique and valuable option 13 Over 1,000 recyclers in North America, Europe and Japan High cost High risk High tech
