City of El Monte Vision El Monte is a vibrant and safe community that respects its historical and cultural diversity and strives to provide a high quality of life through well-designed neighborhoods, quality education, park and recreational amenities, economic and employment opportunities, and a healthy environment.

The P.L.A.C.E. Program Our community and our environment affect our health:  The design and structure of our cities, communities, neighborhoods, work sites, schools, and streets can impact how much physical activity we get, what we eat, and the quality of the air we breathe. Problem: Physical inactivity, poor nutrition and exposure to air pollution can cause chronic conditions such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes and asthma. 33% of El Monte school children are obese and 42% of adults are sedentary. Solution: Develop healthier communities by fostering policy change that improves the places where people live, work and play. Create programs and incentives that implement the policy changes, attract healthy food retailers and changes in behavior.
