Effects of Industrialization on Air Subject: ENV-103 Section: 01 Group: 10 Presented By Tanzim Rahman ( ) Zawad Hossain ( )

What Is Industrialization?  Industrialization is the period of social and economic change that transforms a human group from an agricultural society into an industrial one.agricultural society industrial  part of a wider modernization processmodernization  Introduction of manufacturing into a society

Causes of Industrialization  Natural resources : Cheap resource for building material Profusion of Forests Large Supplies of Water and chemical elements.  Growing Population : More people = needed goods = growth of industry  Improved Transportation : Increases demand = increased supply = increase of shipping needs

Causes of Industrialization (Continued)  High Immigration : 1.Skilled people from other countries causes more industrialization 2.Unskilled people causes poor industrialization  New inventions: New inventions helped produce goods more efficiently.  Investment Capital: # Economy Thriving = Increase of Business Profits #World’s economy depends on industries

THE EFFECTS …  Acid rain  Global warming  Arctic haze  Effects on Different Countries

#Acid Rain  Industries are realizing toxic particles in the air such as NOx (Nitrogen particles), SOx (Sulphur particles) and VOCs (Volatile organic compounds) every day in countless amounts  These gases react with the tiny droplets of water in clouds to form sulphuric and nitric acids.  rain from these clouds then falls as acid and known as “ACID RAIN”  Industries are realizing toxic particles in the air such as NOx (Nitrogen particles), SOx (Sulphur particles) and VOCs (Volatile organic compounds) every day in countless amounts

#Acid Rain (Continued)  Acid of acid rain is Sulphuric acid (H2SO4)  Sulphuric acid is very strong acid, therefore it can cause severe damage.  Acid also fall as snow, fog or mists.  Acid rain can decrease the pH of lakes and rivers which make the marine animals suffer  Destroys soil composition and causes harm on plants  Causes lungs disease to human

#Global Warming  The release of carbon dioxide into the air.  Temperature on earth is increasing.  Global warming is the effect of two hundred years of burning fossil fuels, such as coal and oil. These fossil fuels released from factories prevent the heat on earth from escaping into space, causing the temperature to rise.  “Green House Effect”

Arctic haze  the phenomenon of a visible reddish-brown springtime haze in the atmosphere at high latitudes in the Arctic.phenomenonhaze atmospherelatitudesArctic  Warm the environment up to three degrees Fahrenheit.

Air pollution in Developed and Developing Countries  Acid Rain In Korea.  Significant Air Pollution in Brazil : According to an evaluation based on World Bank and United Nations data of emissions and air quality in 18 mega-cities, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo were ranked the 12 th and 17 th the most polluted cities because of this ethanol based air pollution.  Acid Rain in Jakarta : the pH level in rainwater was recorded worst in Jakarta (4.52).  Other Nations : India, China, affected by air pollutions.

Prevention  Use of scrubbers which trap pollutants before they are released.  Using catalytic converters in cars to reduce their emissions.  Alternative energy sources.  Usage of natural gas or CNG in power plants is increased instead of burning diesel.  Funding for the restoration of damaged ecosystems.
