Independent Studies Support A student-led research project to uncover current support in ‘capstone’ modules across HaSS Student Researchers’ recommendations for best practice and resources to support their peers

Process of Project O Recruitment of students O Collecting data – staff s and interviews O Using Blackboard discussion ‘live’ O Writing up recommendations O Creating resources O Website resources to help students O Recommendations for staff O Video guide of staff for students

Some Recommendations O Critique between one and two chapters of a dissertation project O Have supervisors who make their availability clear O Keep Handbooks to between 20 – 25 pages O Include a table of key dates for easy reference O could include some suggested learner-regulated deadlines O Show ‘real life’ current projects to do with the subject - for example, local charities, museums, online projects, markets that work in similar areas

Next Steps O Upload this onto a website O Increase its visibility and people’s awareness O Video script is in draft form O Encourage student groups to promote and use it
