Developing Action Plans Module 5 Level 1 Individual Identification and Recruitment (ID&R) Action Plan

Materials Module 5 Level 1 Outline Handouts, as needed Pen or pencil Highlighters Post-its

Level 1: Individual ID&R Action Plan Goal The recruiter will know how to develop an individual ID&R action plan for finding eligible migrant children, youth and their families.

Objectives Participants will be able to: Explain why it is important to develop an individual action plan to find migrant families and youth. Identify the elements of an individual action plan. Develop an individual action plan for finding migrant families and youth. Level 1: Individual ID&R Action Plan

Agenda: Level 1 Action Plans – Definition and Elements – Objectives Types of Action Plans in the MEP Individual ID&R Action Plan Individual ID&R Action Plan: Debrief Individual ID&R Action Plan: Develop Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down Assessment

OME Common Findings Failure to conduct prospective annually, and/or not using independent re-interviewers at least once every three years. Lack of effort in recruiting a particular age group, such as OSY. Lack of evidence of training for new and/or experienced recruiters. No written procedures for resolving eligibility procedures. Unauthorized changes to required section of the COE.

Action Plan: Definition and Elements An action plan is a written plan that an individual, or organization, develops to guide and focus their efforts in order to reach a desired goal. Every action plan should have: A goal - what you want to accomplish. Objectives - the steps you need to take to reach your goal.

Action Plan: Objectives Specific Objectives need to be clear and detailed. Realistic The person has to believe it is possible to achieve.

Action Plan: Objectives Time-specific Deadlines for achieving each stage should be set. These should be in the foreseeable future. Small enough to be handled. Large enough to show results. Measurable Results need to be measurable. Outcomes must be what the person really wants.

State Local/District Individual What is the difference between the three types of plans? Types of Action Plans in the MEP

Partner up with someone at another table. Each pair will have one set of cards and a workmat. With your partner, decide if the description you read on the card would be included in the state, local or individual action plan. Types of Action Plans in the MEP

Individual ID&R Action Plan Builds on the state and local action plans. Should be detailed and specific. Translates into a schedule or “to do” list for the recruiter with a specific timeframe. Includes recruitment objectives.

Individual ID&R Action Plan In other words, the individual ID&R action plan helps the recruiter, the supervisor and other recruitment staff organize and prioritize recruitment activities and establish timelines for their completion.

Individual ID&R Action Plan Goal The recruiter will use all available resources to become more efficient at finding all eligible migrant children.

Individual ID&R Action Plan Individual ID&R action plans posted around the room. Each plan has four objectives listed. Fill out the plan as a group. – No more than four participants to a group. Once you have decided on your group of four, report to one of the posters with a marker and WAIT

ObjectiveStaff ResponsibleActivityTimelineEvidence of Success Learn the basic child eligibility requirements. Develop a recruitment network and list of contacts. Develop a support system in the schools. Meet with supervisor to plan ID&R activities.

Individual ID&R Action Plan Complete the first objective as a whole group. As a small group, fill out the chart for the remaining objectives. You also have one blank row to add your own objective. If you choose to add an additional objective, please make sure you fill in all appropriate columns for that objective.

Individual ID&R Action Plan Visit each of the action plans created by your colleagues. Read how each objective was addressed. Talk to your group about differences/similarities you see between your colleagues’ action plans and the one that your group wrote. You will have about two minutes per action plan before I signal you to move on.

Individual ID&R Action Plan: Debrief What was the hardest part about writing the individual ID&R action plan? How was the action plan you wrote different from the action plans your colleagues wrote? What similarities did the action plan you wrote have to the action plans written by your colleagues?

Individual ID&R Action Plan: Develop Take a minute to think about the action plan you wrote with your group. Think about some of the action plans your colleagues wrote. Take your individual ID&R action plan Template and fill it out based on the samples around the room or your own ideas that were generated by today’s discussion.

Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down…

An individual ID&R action plan forces the recruiter to: Think about what should be accomplished. Establish recruitment objectives. Decide the best way to attain these objectives. Develop specific action steps and timelines for the completion of the recruitment objectives. Fall asleep! Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down…

An individual ID&R action plan encourages the recruiter to: Use time wisely. Evaluate work and adjust strategies as needed. Leave a guide for a new recruiter. Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down…

Ziggy, “the No Good Cat” says, “If it’s not written down, it didn’t happen.”

Please complete the assessment independently. When all participants are done, discuss answers with a partner; revise answers if needed. We will review as a whole group and you will grade your own. Level 1 Assessment
