Presentation transcript:

 Choosing Wisely is an initiative to address how providers can and should discuss what medical tests and treatments are really needed (see attached). It was originally for doctors but has been expanded to include nursing. The American Academy of Nursing is leading the nursing profession's efforts in the Choosing Wisely Campaign. The Academy has already released a list of "Ten Things Nurses and Patients Should Question" (see attached).

 In response to the American Academy of Nursing's “Choosing Wisely” Campaign the AANN Board of Directors has appointed a Task Force to review neuroscience nursing evidence and make a recommendation to the Board for 5-10 things nurses should tell neuroscience patients to question.

 Cathy Cartwright - Chair  Michele Grigaitis - Member  Pat Lane - Board Liaison  Kelly Podkowa - Staff

 As an SFG Chair, the Task Force asks you to inform your SFG via the listserv of AANN's participation in the Choosing Wisely Campaign and solicit members to participate in formulating these evidence-based recommendations

 June - Discuss SFG involvement with SFG Chairs  July – Send notification to SFG listserv members  July to September – SFG members formulate recommendations based on evidence  September - Recommendations to Task Force for our review  November - Recommendations to Board
