Today in Art… We will discuss the importance of celebrations in our family’s culture. We will use our senses and observation skills to make connections to special celebrations around the world with our own family celebrations. We will create sketches that represent special holiday celebrations with our family.

In what ways are celebrations an important part of your family culture?

I SEE… I THINK… I HEAR… I SMELL… I TASTE… I FEEL… OR IT REMINDS ME

Working in a small group, use the graphic organizer to closely examine pictures from various cultural celebrations. Observe like an artist or detective by only stating the facts, then use your senses to make connections. Activity…

Chinese New Year

Day of the Dead

Christmas

What did you learn through observation about the different cultural celebrations? What connections did you make with your family’s celebrations?

In what ways are celebrations an important part of your family culture?

With a partner, share 2 different holidays you celebrate with your family. Why are they important to your family? Reflections…
