Psychology HSP3U/C Standish Fall 2015

Intro Activity – In groups, using the white boards, split into TWO spaces, one for a word mesh of what you think makes up Psychology, one for what you would like to spend time on in this unit.

Introduction The study of the individual consists of understanding human behaviour and motivations, as well as the brain and its role in personality formation. – Psychodynamic theorists delve into the human mind (or psyche), especially the subconscious mind, to explain motivations. – Behaviourists believe that only observable behaviour is important and have developed methods for altering it. – Humanists believe that the psychologist’s role is to help clients understand themselves. – Cognitive psychologists study how the brain learns and apply their understandings to therapy, often coupled with behavioural psychology.

Antisocial Personality Disorder

Schools of Thought Four major schools of thought in psychology that developed throughout the twentieth century: psychodynamic theory, behaviourist psychology, humanist psychology, and cognitive psychology.

How would you react if everyone around you suddenly froze? Why would you act that way?

Why do people participate in flash mobs? Do they feel the need to join in or to belong, that they enjoy doing fun things, or that people who don’t join in are scared of new experiences or are non-conformists?
