PO/EO: REFS: A. ACP 125, CANSUPP 1B, RADIOTELEPHONE PROCEDURES B. B-GL /FP-Z02, FIELD MESSAGE FORMATS C. B-GL /FP-001, UNIT SOP'S AND TAM USE OPERATIONAL REPORTS AND RETURNS

MTPS: 1. Types of Reports; and 2. Sending and Receiving Reports

Review What are the prowords used for verification procedure? VERIFY; I VERIFY, and CORRECTION.

Definitions Report a report describes important activities, either friendly or hostile. It may be for information only or alternately, the nature of the information provided may require action to be taken by the recipient. State a state is a status report used to keep commanders informed of the fighting effectiveness of units and sub-units.

Definitions Return a return is an action document calling for replacement of men or material. Request a request is used to demand one of the following: various types of operational support such as air or aviation; resupply of combat supplies and spare parts; and further information.

Rules and Aids Reports must be offered using the appropriate proword, ie SITREP; Headings are spelled phonetically and numbers/figures are sent digit by digit; The proword FIGURES and I SPELL are not used: Long message procedure is used when required; Reports are sent at dictation speed; It is mandatory for receiving stations to acknowledge all reports; and Only headings with information are sent, no nil returns are to be sent.

Confirmation What are the four types of reports? Report; State; Return; and Request.

Situation Report PROWORD – SITREP: EN - units in contact, enemy shelling, estimation of strength, morale, possible en action; FRIENDLY (OWN SITUATION) - location of troops by grid encoded, or by report line, your activity, your intentions; ADMINISTRATION - any immediate adm requirements at the time (fuel, ammo, etc); GENERAL (RECOMMENDATION) INFORMATION NOT COVERED ELSEWHERE - I suggest c/s 24 clear the woods at grid (ENCODED)

SITREP Example: 21 - THIS IS - 21A - SITREP - OVER 21 - SEND - OVER OHP 421A - SITREP - EN - GRID section of infantry dug in FR - C/S 31 at grid (ENCODED) ADM - I require figures 25 litres of fuel GEN - I suggest C/S 23 clear the woods at grid (ENCODED) - OVER 21 - ROGER – OUT

Location State 21 - THIS IS - 21A - LOCSTATE - OVER 21 - SEND - OVER 21A - LOCSTATE - GRID (ENCODED) - OVER 21 - WAIT - OUT (PAUSE) 21 - ROGER – OUT

LOCSTATE 31 - THIS IS SEND LOCSTATE - OVER 31 - WAIT OUT 3 - THIS IS LOCSTATE GRID (ENCODED) MOVING SOUTH - OVER 3 - ROGER OUT

Contact Report Used to report enemy sightings and activities. Whenever enemy activity is sighted or encountered, it is usual to issue a WARNING in the form of CONTACT WAIT OUT.

CONTACT REPORT Proword – CONTACT: Example 1 WARNING - CONTACT WAIT OUT CONTACT - Always sent at start of message. EN LOC - (NOT ENCODED) EN SIT - TYPE AND ACTION TIME OF SIGHTING - (IF REQUIRED) OWN ACTION

CONTACT REPORT Example THIS IS - 31B - CONTACT WAIT OUT 31 - THIS IS - 31B - CONTACT GRID , 2 X T80s AND 1 SECTION OF INFANTRY DUG IN, HAVE ENGAGED AND DESTROYED 2 X T80s INFANTRY ARE WITHDRAWING SOUTH. AM OBSERVING - OVER 31 - ROGER OUT

Confirmation Practice each of the following: SITREP; LOCSTATE; and CONTACT.

Final Confirmation What are the rules and aids for sending operational reports? Reports must be offered using the appropriate proword, ie SITREP; Headings are spelled phonetically and figures are sent digit by digit; The proword FIGURES and I SPELL are not used; Long message procedure is used when required; Reports are sent at dictation speed; It is mandatory for receiving stations to acknowledge all reports; and Only headings with information are sent, no nil returns are to be sent.
