ACT Math Review 2 nd Section of the Test

Math Section of ACT 60 questions in 60 minutes Pre-Algebra/Elementary Algebra 21 – 27 questions Intermediate Algebra/Coordinate Geometry 18 – 24 questions Plane Geometry & Trig 15 – 21 questions

TIPS for MATH ACT Tip#1 – Many problems can be solved w/out the calculator faster than with the calculator. Tip#2 – The questions go from easy to difficult, don’t waste a lot of time on a hard problem. They are all worth the same points.

TIPS for MATH ACT Tip #3 – You will be able to test answers for some problems. Tip #4 – Try to guess & test numbers in place of variables to get some answers. Tip #5 – Check to see if the answer you got is what was asked for. (Ex. You may solve for y and the problem asks for 1/y)

Try a few problems

ANSWER K

In the figure below, A, B, C, and D are collinear, FC is parallel to ED, BE is perpendicular to ED, and the measures of < FAB and < EBA are as marked. What is the measure of <FCB ? A. 33° B. 57° C. 63° D. 84° E. Cannot be determined from the given information

ANSWER B

What is the greatest common factor of 42, 126, and 210 ? F.2 G. 6 H. 14 J. 21 K. 42

ANSWER K

The geometric figure shown below consists of a square and 4 semicircles. The diameters of the semicircles are the sides of the square, and each diameter is 10 centimeters long. Which of the following is the closest approximation of the total area, in square centimeters, of this geometric figure? F. 100 G. 160 H. 260 J. 400 K. 730

ANSWER H

Which of the following is an equation of the circle with its center at (0,0) that passes through (3,4) in the standard (x,y) coordinate plane? F. x – y = 1 G. x + y = 25 H. x 2 + y = 25 J. x 2 + y 2 = 5 K. x 2 + y 2 = 25
