1900 History of the escalator The word escalator comes from the word ‘scala’ which is Latin for steps and the word escalator. Charles Seeberger invented the escalator. Charles got introduced into the inventors hall of fame in 2007 The escalator began as a amusement not a partial transport. An escalator is a moving stair case that moves you either up of down

1901 Hubert Booths vacuum cleaner A vacuum is also called a hoover or a sweeper. Before there were vacuum cleaners there were rugs that were hung up on walls or lines and beat with a carpet beater. Booth made a motorized vacuum cleaner on August 30, 1901 Booth came up with the idea of sucking the dust away and hot blowing it away.

1902 the birth of the teddy bear Theodore Roosevelt invented the teddy bear. Roosevelt found a baby wounded bear when he went on a bear hunt in Mississippi an had to kill it and that is how the teddy was made.

1903 Crayola crayons were invented In the first box there were only eight crayons The first colors were black, brown, blue, red, purple, orange, yellow, green. The first box of crayons only sold for one nickel.

1904 Longacre square which is now Times square Times square is in Manhattan new York. Times square used to be a neighborhood. On new years eve close to one million people go to times square to see the dropping of the ball. Longacre square was renamed times square in April 1904

1905 the worlds first nickelodeon theater On June 19, 1905, 450 people attended the worlds first nickelodeon. The movies were only a 15 minute picture show. 1,500 people stood in line to see the movie

1906 the San Francisco earthquake Earthquake happened on April 18, 1906 Destroyed 490 city blocks Destroyed 25,000 buildings Made over 250,000 people homeless Killed between people

1907 the Kingston earthquake 800 people died Destroyed nearly all the historical buildings There were hundreds with heads and bodies cut and streaming with blood A lot of people were stuck under fallen stores and tenements

1908 Collinwood school fire The fire killed 172 students, 2 teachers, and 1 rescuer Parents rushed to the school to try and catch the kids that were jumping out windows 19 of the bodies couldn’t be identified.
