Virtual Tour of a School in England Welcome to the virtual tour of Woodlands Junior School in the south-east corner of the United Kingdom. by Usanova L.O.
The school was built in the 1960's to replace an overcrowding school in our local town centre. The photo below shows are main entrance, hall and office block.
Classrooms Each class is well resourced for all curriculum areas. Classrooms Our classrooms are large and every classroom, in the main teaching block, has its own resource area. In all classrooms there is a computer, overhead projector, an interactive whiteboard. Photo shows part of a classroom
Music Room We have a well equipped music room where class and individual lessons are held. Many of our students play a variety of musical instruments. As far as we are aware, we are the only school in our area to have a 'Singing and Signing' Choir.
Opportunity Centre We have an Opportunity Centre for individual and small group work with learning support assistances. The photo to the left, shows our Senco (Special Needs Teacher) assessing a child in our Opportunity Centre.
Small Groups Area In between the upstairs classrooms, we have special areas for small group work.
Library This is our reference library. It is used by all the classes weekly and also at lunch times. Every classroom has its own mini libraries too.
Computers We have a computer suite of 32 computers as well as computers in every classroom.
Staffroom We are proud of our staffroom which is well stocked with biscuits and other useful resources! We have a large staffroom to cater for the large number of staff we have.
School Hall We have an amazing school hall. The colourful curtains you can see, were provided by our Friends Association. Behind the curtains is our dining hall. The hall is used for gymnastics, assemblies, eating lunch and is the place where we hold our many events.
Main Teaching Block Here you can see part of our upper playground with the main teaching block in the distance. We have eight classrooms in this block, four on each floor.
Playgrounds This photograph shows one of our two playgrounds. You can see our adventure playground in the distance.
Adventure Playground and Field We are very fortunate to have a large field. Our students enjoy using it for games and cross- country runs. Our Adventure playground is very popular!
Quiet Area This is our quiet area, for children who want peace away from our two playgrounds at break times. It used to be a place where the school rabbits were kept when the school first opened. Our school kitchen is through the windows.
Nature Area We have many nature areas around the school. This one, outside our main block, contains our school pond which is looked after by our Environmental Club members. We also have a 'wild area' in the corner of our playing field.
Thank you for taking the 2005 tour of Woodlands Junior School.
