Welcome and Introduction! Goals: 1) Give you Great Resources You can use this next Week in Class! 2) Keep you Enthused as we go through this thing they call the Common Core!

What is my interpretation of the Common Core? If we ask our students to change, we must change as well! My session today, is centered around one of those changes that I feel is necessary for higher student achievement. (How Are Questions Being Asked?)

The Art of Questioning: (What is the GCF for 18 and 24)? March, I created student questioning cards. (Green Cards on buckets) April, I created the 4-fold questioning cards for problem-solving process: (Gold Cards): RESULTS WERE AWFUL!

I needed an INCENTIVE! I created the Student Raffle Tickets! (How They Work):

Preview Problem-Solving Activity and how they work: Problem-Solving Activity-Using the Cards: Raffle after: (2) Use of Math Practices!

Other ways to use Raffle Tickets in class: During warm-ups: I always allow an extra minute for students to use the cards. Problems of the Day or Week! Any Pair-Sharing: Students are prompted to use the cards.

THIS YEAR’S RESULTS HAVE BEEN AMAZING!!! 550 and counting for first two months of this school year! Another Incentive: 2,500 Goal by end of the year!

ABCD-Poster Problems: Poster Problem Teacher Sheet and Activity: Raffle: (3): (MP’s 3 and 6 are used throughout): Wrap-up of Poster Problem: Why are mistakes Awesome?
