Death Zone  The majority of children injured or killed in pupil transportation are not injured or killed on the bus, but outside the bus.  Most are struck by motorists who fail to stop for the flashing red lights and extended stop signs.  The “Death Zone” is the area immediately in front of and around the bus.

Alabama’s NEW School Bus Stop Law (Effective October 1, 2006)  “ The driver of a vehicle upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus which has stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging any school children on a highway, on a roadway, on school property, or upon a private road shall bring the vehicle to a complete stop before reaching the school bus…”
