Start Time Task Force Considerations Survey & Transp. Update

Considerations Survey Continued

STTF Considerations Considerations that also received at least three votes: 1. Maintain Elementary Band and String Programs 2. Impact on Families (child care, safe places for children) 3. Elementary Travel not before sunrise or after sunset 4. Traffic Patterns and volumes Considerations that received one or two votes: 1. 7-Period Options 2. Providing for start times later than 8: HR and Negotiated Agreement Considerations 4. Minimizing the amount of time students would miss Considerations that did not receive votes but still to be used: 1. How early is developmentally appropriate for preschool students 2. Cost 3. Extent of Transportation – basic education versus choice

STTF Key Considerations 1. Middle School Start Times also No Earlier than 8:00. (This consideration would establish that Middle Schools should also start no earlier than 8:00 am. This consideration is based on the body of research that says that adolescents benefit from later school start times and acknowledges that middle school students fall into the age group considered adolescents by the research. ) 2. Maintenance of Athletic Programs. (This consideration would prioritize recommendations that do not result in decreasing student access to a broad athletic program.) 3. The most positive impacts to the majority of students with attention to equity.

Question Considerations 1. Academic 2. Equity 3. Health and Safety 4. Before - and After - School Activities 5. Athletics 6. Transportation Considerations 7. Community Use 8. Financial 9. Operational

Considerations Survey Continued What did we miss? What should we look more in-depth into? How can we look at data differently? How can we use what we have learned?
