The Basketball Court by Tyler Martin

Brooklyn has a nice basketball court. The basketball court is in the middle of the city. The city wants to tear down the court.

The children play on the court everyday. They always have someone playing on the court.

The children found out the city wants to take the court down to build a parking lot. The children spread the word BUZZ—BUZZ—BUZZ about the court being taken down.

They want to have a meeting about the court being changed to a parking lot. One person said that they would all go to a meeting with the city to talk about keeping the basketball court opened.

The children go to the meeting and speak to Mr. Right who is the president of the council. The children told him their story about keeping the court. They tell him that the court is like their home away from home.

Mr. Right says, “If we build a parking lot, we will make a great deal of money---Cha Ching! Cha Ching!” The children tell him, “We use the court everyday to play basketball and it’s not fair.”

Miss Peggy, a city council member, says she remembered when she was young and played on that same court. She will vote to keep the basketball court.

The next day when the children showed up to play basketball, they saw a bulldozer at the court. The children were shocked and became upset with the city.

Suddenly, the children heard a loud noise from the court as the bulldozer started up. The bulldozer started digging and removing the court.

Miss Peggy started yelling to STOP as she stood in front of the bulldozer. She explained that the city council members had a meeting again and decided to keep the court for the children to play basketball. All the children were happy and excited that the court will stay.
