Questioning, Inquiry and Reasoning Psychologist Irving Sigel ( ) theorized that the brain responds to questions in ways that influence an individual’s social, emotional, and cognitive development. Questions can create challenges to inspire learning. Questions can find out what students know, discover what they feel, understand what they need, determine how they think, and then stimulate and motivate students to ask their own questions. In this section, you will review resources on questioning and inquiry. Using the Elements of Reasoning strategy, you will create challenging questions to guide a unit of instruction that you will teach in the future. This assignment will inform the major assignment, the Problem- Based Learning Project.

Problem Based Learning Problem Based Learning (PBL) is a student- centered pedagogy in which students learn about a subject through the experience of problem solving. Students learn thinking strategies and domain/content knowledge. Teacher acts as facilitator or tutor.

PBL Major Assignment - Design a project based learning lesson plan In this PBL activity, students will: use 21st century skills and innovations to solve the problem presented. use creativity and collaboration to brainstorm, research, and plan potential solutions to the problem. learn to give and receive feedback in order to revise their end product. share their proposals by selecting a product to be presented or shared with an appropriate audience.

Steps To begin the construction of the PBL lesson, complete the Problem Based Learning Guide Template. This guide will help drive your lesson. Examples of actual PBL lessons have been provided for you. Please refer to the Assigned Resources. After writing the PBL lesson, use the Evaluation Checklist to thoroughly reflect on the strengths and weaknesses in the lesson’s design and future implementation. Do this activity alone and also with your mentor It is highly recommended that you design this lesson for implementation for the next school year.

Module 5 Culmination PBL Project is due at the end of Module 6. As a culminating activity, your PBL lesson and reflections will be shared in school level groups during our FINAL Course 2 Face to Face meeting. Share your lesson and reflection via your choice of multimedia presentation (Google Slides, PowerPoint, Prezi, story boards, video, wiki, etc.) to the link provided in Module 6. For each PBL lesson, all participants will complete the rubric provided as a final evaluation.

Details Regarding FINAL Required Face to Face session Your PBL project will be presented at the course 2 FINAL Face to Face meeting. Attendance is mandatory! Plan ahead! Stay healthy! Check the announcements section of Blackboard for the location and other pertinent information for your face to face session. Be prepared to present your PBL. Review the rubric for all expectations. Be on time!
