Vision Statement: “The CMS Advisory will build mutual respect and positive relationships within the school community in order to foster character growth and increase student achievement.” What does this vision mean? How can we make this vision become a reality this year?

Each day of our six day schedule has a specific activity assigned to help us reach our goals. Advisory is NOT a study hall! –Day 1: Silent Sustained Reading Day –Day 2: Organizational Day –Day 3: Current Event Day –Day 4: Silent Sustained Reading Day –Day 5: Character Education Day –Day 6: Organizational Day

Silent Sustained Reading (SSR) –When? Day 1 and 4 –What do I do? Under the guidance of your Language Arts teacher, bring a book of your own choosing. You will read for the entire advisory period. –Why? You will strengthen your literary skills and develop and/or increase a love of reading!

Organizational Day –When? Day 2 and 6 –What do I do? Bring any missing or incomplete work and your agenda book. During this period you will catch up on missing work, complete SRCs, organize your notebooks/binders, and your teacher will help you check Genesis for current grades and missing work. –Why? You will stay organized throughout the year and become more successful in your classes!

Current Event Day –When? Day 3 –What do I do? Your advisory teacher will distribute an article provided by our Social Studies or Science teachers. You will read and annotate the article, then discuss its content as a class. You will also write a brief reflection for your Social Studies or Science teacher to see (and grade!). –Why? You will build your strength as a reader, writer, and thinker, while learning about the current happenings of our world!

Character Education Day –When? Day 5 –What do I do? You will participate in a character education activity led by your advisory teacher focusing on responsibility, respect, fairness, trustworthiness, caring, and citizenship. You can earn Paws-o-meter tickets during this activity to reach our school goals! –Why? These activities will strengthen your individual character as well as create a better community in our advisory and our school.

What is my role as your advisory teacher? –I am your number one supporter! –I will assist you whenever I can in reading, organizing, and character growth. –I am here to help make your experience at CMS a success!

Any Questions?
