Be an Example (4) The Christian and His Community 1 Peter 2:12

Love Your Neighbor  Commanded  Matthew 22:39  James 2:8 Romans 13:8-10  Luke 10:25-37, “Who is my neighbor?”  Matthew 7:12

Decorum  We should not be an embarrassment to our community  Etiquette – standards of polite and proper conduct  1 Peter 2:12  Philippians 1:27, 1 Timothy 4:12 James 3:13

Decorum  Acting properly  1 Corinthians 13:5  Colossians 4:5-6 1 Timothy 2:1-2  We should strive to be good neighbors, an asset to our neighborhood, etc.

Our activities  Where are you going?  How are you entertained?  Is your light shining? Philippians 2:15 1 Thessalonians 5:21- 22

Mind your own business  1 Thessalonians 4:11-12  Don’t be guilty of gossip, etc. 2 Thessalonians 3:11- 12, cf. 1 Timothy 5:13 Proverbs 26:20  Modesty! How is our appearance? Cf. 1 Timothy 2:9-10

Pleasant, Friendly  Proper attitudes  Control your temper James 1:19, Ephesians 4:26, 31  Romans 15:2, “let each one please his neighbor leading to edification.”

Honesty  A fundamental quality! We need to be honest and honorable  What type of reputation do you have in your community?  Romans 13:8, cf. Matthew 23:16-23, 5:37  Exodus 20:16, “you shall not bear false witness…”

Personal Benevolence  We ought to care and help others!  As Christians we have liberties in this  Ephesians 4:28  James 1:27, Galatians 6:10  Acts 9:36, 10:2 Titus 2:14

Prayer  We pray for all men, including our community  1 Timothy 2:1-2  Communities are often unwilling participants in ungodly laws and troubles! This is where we desire to live our quiet lives!

Evangelism  Most of our personal teaching will be in the community  This is where we can have the greatest help for good  1 Corinthians 9:22  2 Corinthians 5:11, every soul won to Him is an improvement to our society.
