THREATS AGAINST THE CHURCH “A License for Immorality” Jude 1:3,4

PROTECT AND PRESERVE Two Historic battles over Truth: (1)In the Garden of Eden (misconstruing the commands of God; (2) The Temptation of Christ in the Wilderness: Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-9.

I. A CALL TO CONTEND: To defend the truth continuously and vigorously; This is a compound verb in the English which means to “agonize about the truth.” 1 Timothy 6: storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. 20 O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge--

II. A CONFIDENT FAITH “The Faith” – THE Christian faith (a specific message; not just a religious message) “The Common Salvation we share” (all those who are saved have experienced the same saving grace of Jesus Christ; Acts 2:42; I Timothy 6:19,20; 2 Tim 1:13,14. Another Gospel: Gal 1:9

III. A COUNTERFEIT BELIEVER: (vs.4a) A.Slipping in secretly with evil intentions; 2 Peter 2:1 (Evolving scripture that adjusts to the changing culture)2 Peter 2:1 Finding Scripture to support a cause, rather than scripture defining the cause. B. Counterfeit Pastors, Elders, Deacons, Teachers: (This destroys Authority) Acts 20:28-31; 2 Cor 11:12-15; Gal 1:6-9

IV. A CORRUPTED MESSAGE: (vs.4b) The Character of Apostates: The Character of Apostates: Godless people; ( people whose lives are not filled with God.
