The Future Art Foundations (Grade 7)

Session 1: Challenge Create a work of art that shows a utopic or dystopic version of a place in the future that has changed over time. This can be a literal place (such as New York City, your school, or your bedroom) or a metaphorical place (such as your state of mind or emotions).

Past Vs Future What was the world like in the past? How is it different today? What has changed?

Utopia Vs Dystopia What is a Utopia? A Dystopia? Video (1:53):

Claude Monet, Summer Poppy Field,

Robert McCall, The Prologue and the Promise,

Goya, Disasters of War: And There is Nothing To Be Done,

Tom Hornung, Mind Control,

Challenge: Create a work of art that shows an imagined version of a place in the future that has changed over time.

Agenda Sketch, at minimum, 4 different versions of a place in the future. REMEMBER, this can be a literal place (such as New York City, your school, or your bedroom) or a metaphorical place (such as your state of mind or emotions). After sketching 4, select the one you think is best. Write out in your sketchbook, in at least 3 sentences, why you want to choose that particular sketch to use for your final artwork. (Note if you chose to do a utopia or dystopia.)

Reflection Have you completed your sketching ideas and selected the one you’d like to create? Did your group activity help you to develop ideas?

NEXT CLASS Watercolor begins!!!
