KNOW…WANT to know…LEARNED… Drama(General) Shakespearean Drama

 What is Dramatic Irony?  How does Dramatic Irony function?

 Dramatic Irony occurs when the audience or reader knows something that a character in a play does not know.  Dramatic Irony is often revealed to the audience through dramatic devices including stage directions, monologues, or a soliloquy.  Dramatic Irony creates a sense of entitlement or enlightenment for the audience. The audience is elevated as a result of “knowing” something that actors on the stage.

 Take time to reflect on Romeo and Juliet and, in your own words, explain how DRAMATIC IRONY is employed in the play.  Give an example from other literature, film, television, or even “real life”, to show how DRAMATIC IRONY functions.

 DIRECTIONS: List 3 main ideas from each of the following sections of the film. 1) Acting Companies, Venues, and Audiences 2) The Theater as a Business 3) Writers 4) Actors 5) Behind the Scenes 6) The Globe

 8 groups of 4 members  2 groups will read, annotate, discuss, and respond to the four Shakespearean dramatic speeches in the textbook.  Each group will answer, in writing, the relevant Discussion Questions on p  CLOSURE: Each group member will independently construct 2-3 questions they have about the language, context, or literary/dramatic devices used in their selected speech.
