LCLS II FNAL Niobium Pre- Procurement Review - Overview Camille M. Ginsburg, FNAL April 17, 2014

Scope and Charge for the Meeting Ginsburg - Niobium pre-procurement engineering peer review Review the technical specification and plan toward procurement of the niobium and other materials for LCLS-II SRF cavities schedule materials specifications drawing readiness cost estimates, including contingency QA/QC plan Technical and procurement experts have been invited to form a review team Outcome: a set of action items to lead us to the procurement readiness (gate) review prior to procurement

Review Team Ginsburg - Niobium pre-procurement engineering peer review Many thanks to: Allan Rowe (Chair) – FNAL Gigi Ciovati – JLab Marc Ross – SLAC Barry Miller – SLAC John Zweibohmer – FNAL

Procurement Readiness Review – the next step! Ginsburg - Niobium pre-procurement engineering peer review Source: “Project Design and Milestone Review Procedure,” LCLSII-1.1-QA-0009-R0 Confirm necessary staffing, procurement plan/procedures, requisite drawings in place Identify equipment/systems with safety importance, ensure compliant with Hazard Analysis Report Identify procedures necessary for safety, ensure developed, reviewed, verified, approved Review topics: objectives, schedule, issues and concerns, documentation status, QA and safety, residual risk items, open items and plans for closeout Please discuss and collect the action items needed for a successful PRR!

Future LCLS-II Review Committee Charge: Niobium Raw Material Procurement Readiness Review Ginsburg - Niobium pre-procurement engineering peer review

General Considerations Ginsburg - Niobium pre-procurement engineering peer review Project schedule is aggressive; cost is tightly constrained Niobium procurement schedule is driven by the overall project plan Niobium procurement is technically complex and has a long lead time FNAL has extensive previous experience and familiarity with material vendors For this large project, we are working closely with SLAC and JLab, including adopting the JLab SOTR model SOTR=Subcontracting Officer Technical Representative FNAL responsible for niobium procurements; JLab technical experts to be critically involved in vendor visits, all agreements

Presentations Ginsburg - Niobium pre-procurement engineering peer review Welcome and Logistics – Rich Stanek (Senior Team Lead) Review Overview – Camille Ginsburg (CAM, Deputy Team Lead) Schedule – Marc Kaducak (Project Engineer – Cost/Schedule) Advance Acquisition Plan – Bob Cibic (Procurement Officer) Materials Specification – Lance Cooley (SC Materials Dept Head) Fabrication Drawings – Mike Foley (Niobium SOTR) Request for Proposal – Mike QA/QC plans – Camille Review Team Discussion Closeout
