Knitting way back when. The word Knitt is taken from knot and Originally from the Old English cnyttan, to knot. One of the earliest known examples of knitting was cotton socks with stranded knit colour patterns found in Egypt. (end of the first millennium) In The first knitting trade guild was started in Paris.it was an Originally a male-only occupation. knitting "by hand" became a craft used by country people that could easily access fibre. While the for the country people it became a necessary craft, for the wealthy it became a leisure activity similar to quilting, spinning, and needlepoint.

Circa 250 – 420 AD ˄ T˄ These cotton socks found in Egypt are some of the earliest knitted pieces. From L to R:Textile Museum, ca – 1200 AD; Victorian & Albert Museum, ca – 1300 AD; Textile Museum, ca AD

The practice is believed to have originated in the U.S. with Texas knitters trying to find a creative way to use their leftover and unfinished knitting projects, but it has since spread worldwide. Magda Sayeg, 37, from Houston has been found to have started this movement. Resulting in a new form of street art, lunching knitting back in to the 21 st century. The aim of this workshop The aim of this workshop is to show you how you can use knitting in an unconventional modern way. I am going to teach you the basic knit stitch and I will show you a rang of unusual materials to knit with. My main focus is on the materials used such as wire, string, plastic and fabric. I want you to think out side of the box, think of how the knit could become 3D by incorporating structure and finishes such as varnish or ceramics. I will show lots of imagery to inspire the group.
