Where are the Andes ? The Andes are in South America. The Andes spread over a wide range of countries ! (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.) Argentina Bolivia Chile Columbia Ecuador Peru Venezuela

The different peaks How many peaks are there? There are 90 peaks in the Andes and they are all over 4,000 m high. What is the name of the tallest peak? The tallest peak is called Aconcagua. Do you know how tall Aconcagua is? It is 6,962 m (22,841 ft)

Weather in the Andes The Andes Mountains have a very high snow line in Peru and northern Chile reaching an altitude of over 19,000 feet. The Andes Mountain climate extends from a altitude of 10°North, altitude of 50° South and 65° to 80° West.

Explorers It is very hard to climb Aconcagua because the higher you climb the harder it is to breath. The first attempt was by European in 1883 by a German geologist and explorer in 1883 by a German geologist and explorer Paul Gussfeldt, who were looking for treasure! They didn’t succeed, they died. First recoded ascent was in 1897 on a British expedition led by Edward Fitzgerald.

Explorers  FACT!!! The youngest boy to climb the Andes was 10 !!!!  The oldest man to climb the Andes was 84!!!! Andes was 84!!!!

Wildlife The Andes have a wide variety of animals. For example : Llama, bear (NOT a teddy bear!), squirrel monkeys, toucans (like parrots), jaguar and coral snakes. As you can see all these animals are very different to the animals we have in England today.
