Background  Overall the usage of Information Technology within the labour movement in Malaysia is still very low.  Majority of the national and in-house union in Malaysia do not have their own website or use the Internet as a new tool to communicate with their members  IT is can be part of as a avenue for workers/women members to do research and obtain labour related information.  To organised the e-generation – who more reliance to the ICT to conduct their daily lives, instead of old method of organising * replying on off-work meeting,home mailing and phone calls to these non-members.

Background  Create awareness among women’s – Con. ILO 183, ILO 98, Fundamental convention & etc.  Enhance support towards achieving gender equality in Labour policies, agreement and advocacies by increasing number of women leaders to share trade union responsibilities.  Create importance on “organising women workforce” into trade Union to achieve “Decent Work” & effort to increase MTUC overall membership, by increasing women members

Target Group  Women’s committee  20 participants

Objective  Strengthening union capacities for use IT for managing Union work  Data base, open office & etc  Promoting wider knowledge of current issue facing the labour movement & International Labour Standard  Web, Wiki  Effective communication network among the national trade union - gender issue, organizing & etc.  , Conferencing & etc  Create awareness on importance of women’s active participation and leadership in Trade Union movement to strengthen solidarity and support, to create “Decent Work” through their trade union

 Thru this training & learning from this course will focus on use information technology for improving the effectiveness, for easier and faster communication with union members.  Trade Union movement  To promote workers right and actions to to promote “Decent Work”

Activities  Collecting data base - continuing process  Women members, address, position, age & etc.  IT training - Web, Open Office & Wiki  Leader ship for Women  As part of our continuous efforts to enhance capacity building and solidarity  Team building  Wider knowledge about labour movement, achieving gender equality & future plan – organising women workforce

Main input  Investment in ICT  Initial set-up and maintenance of internet access and web hosting.  Financial – MTUC and all affiliates

Main outputs  Preparation of follow up work plans  IT training  Enhance knowledge and interests towards trade union development, more importantly, ensure continuous existence.  Strive to continuously involve women workers to be equally responsible towards trade union development in the country to give greater “visibility “ to workers cause.  Increase support towards achieving at lease 30% women leaders in affiliated Trade Union as well as National Centre structures by 2010.
