Updates Autumn 2013 The 2014 Curriculum Who? What? When? Assessment Who? What? When? Dorset Maths Matters

Recommendations Use this year to develop/update whole school approaches to both written and mental calculation strategies Use this year to develop teacher subject knowledge in fractions, decimals and related practical pedagogy Encourage staff to work toward the change by raising expectations in the summer term

Assessment Level Thresholds for 2013 Pilot… ARA Booklets KS1 and KS2 –KS1 – teacher assessment must determine overall levels as well as levels against each AT. –KS2 Calculators - not allowed L3-5 tests. May mean a larger change in the level thresholds to account for any difference in difficulty between the tests in 2014 and those in previous years. –KS2 Calculators continue to be allowed in the level 6 Paper 2 test. –KS2 Additional time – now directly applied for NCA web questionnaire –KS Floor Standards - >65% L4+ RWM > national median for 2L progress –KS2 Optional tests – Y3, Y4, Y5 tests discontinued from July 2014 –KS2 tests – 14/5/14 MM & Paper 1, 15/5/14 Paper 2 & L6 Papers 1 & 2

Another great ECC programme Kate Batorska St Mary’s Primary, Bridport

Leading the 2014 Maths Curriculum Y3/4 pilot Half Day Overhauls LTPs and MTPs Manipulatives and Approaches

Place Value Counters The Singapore Bar

Key Messages Assessment 2014 – no calculators L3-5 and KS1 teachers must submit an overall level as well as AT levels Check your tracking against new thresholds – do any groups need intervention? Evidence based interventions – ECC Need to create whole school approaches to prepare staff for the 2014 curriculum
